Reflection- rounding with compensation strategy

Today I learned that it is really important to record the way that you rounded (i.e. adding or subtracting) either of the factors when using rounding with compensation strategy.

Because of this learning I can now ensure that when we are recording problems, we are careful to record the rounding part so we don't miss out the compensation part of this strategy.

The next step in my learning is to check who needs more practise and who is ready for this strategy with more difficult problems.

PS- I also learned that 'i.e.' means "id est" which is Latin for "That is" thanks to Will asking me the question!

Reflection- maths/rounding with compensation

Today I learned how to do rounding with compensation. This is when you turn a number into the closest ten to make it easier to solve. This part is rounding! There is another part called compensation which is where you either add on or take away what you used to make it to the nearest ten.

Because of this learning I can now do rounding with compensation easily. I had a good time doing this. It was fun teaching Mieke and Jessica how to do rounding with compensation because I enjoy teaching people.

The next step in my learning for this subject is to try this with harder numbers to challenge me.
