Reflection- using help systems

Today I was talking to Cheryl and we were discussing whether or not I should consider creating some video tutorials on various things to do with the computer (eg. FirstClass, iPhoto, etc.). Cheryl wonders if adults would use these tutorials because she doesn't think many people use the Help systems in new pieces of software, and therefore why would they use one that I create for them? Fair enough point.

I remember watching James and a group of others try to connect a DV camera to iMovie yesterday and recall them going through the Help system. This means that I've learned that some adults may not actually use the Help system, but students may!

Because of this learning I now know that it is more likely that children will use online help systems- whereas adults may not.

The next step in my learning is to explore some new ideas and easy ways to create tutorials for people at Fendalton School. I think creating tutorials on how to do things that will help classes set their web pages up (ie. gathering and organising photos, recording sound into FirstClass, etc.). I'm also wondering if getting children to make tutorials would be worth exploring? This could be a great persuasive speaking exercise.
